Short answer
Every wedding needs a checklist to keep you organised and calm. It should cover legal steps, venue and suppliers, budget, guest list, invitations, outfits, catering, music, photography, transport, and the order of the day. A checklist helps you track deadlines and avoid forgetting important tasks.
A wedding checklist is your master plan. It helps you manage the many moving parts, from giving notice to booking the venue, choosing outfits, sending invitations, and planning the ceremony. Start with the legal essentials: giving notice at the register office at least 28 days before the ceremony, and making sure you have two witnesses. In Scotland, give notice at least 29 days ahead, and in Northern Ireland 28 days. Check GOV.UK for current rules, especially if either of you is subject to immigration control.
Then list your practical tasks: set a budget, choose a date, book the venue and suppliers, create a guest list, send save-the-dates and invitations, plan the menu, arrange music and photography, organise transport, and plan the order of the day. Add a section for the day itself, with timings for hair, makeup, getting dressed, travel, photos, the ceremony, the meal, speeches, cake cutting and the first dance.
A checklist also helps you delegate. Share tasks with your partner, family and bridal party. Tick things off as you go, and keep it somewhere you can both see. You do not need a fancy tool, a simple notebook or a shared document works well. The goal is to reduce stress and make sure nothing is forgotten.
