If I invite 250 people to my wedding, how many people will actually attend?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12

Short answer

There is no fixed rule, but most UK weddings see a large majority of invitees turn up, so plan for around two hundred or more.

The number that arrives depends on your guests, the timing and the location. A Saturday wedding in summer near where most people live usually draws the best turn-out. A weekday event, a winter date or a destination venue will see more people decline.

Think about your guest mix. Close family and the bridal party almost always come. Friends who live far away, or who have young children, are more likely to say no. Couples with tight schedules may also have to miss it.

Track your RSVPs as they come in and follow up politely with anyone who has not replied. This gives you a clearer picture for catering and seating. Aim to have a final headcount a few weeks before the wedding, as your venue and caterer will need it.

It is also wise to expect a few last-minute changes. Keep a small buffer for extras where your venue allows, and confirm your final numbers with your caterer by their deadline.
