Does the wedding guest list include the wedding party?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For the bridal party

Short answer

Yes, the wedding party are included on the guest list. They receive invitations just like everyone else, and their names appear on the seating plan too.

It is easy to forget that the people standing up for you still need a formal invitation. Even though your bridesmaids and best man are close family or friends, they are still guests in the eyes of the venue and the caterer. You must count them when you work out your final headcount for food, drinks and seating.

Give each member of the wedding party their own invitation. Do not rely on a text message or a phone call. This avoids any awkwardness if they need to know whether a plus one is allowed, or what the dress code is. It also makes it clear to them that they are expected to attend the ceremony and the reception.

When you draw up the seating plan, remember that they still need a table. They usually sit with other members of the wedding party, or with family, but they should be placed somewhere they feel comfortable. If you have a large party, you might want to give them a special table near the front so they can help out if needed.

Finally, remember that they are still people who may have to travel or take time off work. Treat them with the same courtesy and planning as any other guest on your list.
