When is the latest you can send wedding invitations in the UK?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For guests

Short answer

The latest you should send wedding invitations in the UK is about 6 weeks before the wedding. Any later risks guests having other plans or struggling to arrange time off. For local guests, 4 weeks can work, but 6 weeks is safer.

Six weeks before the wedding is the latest you should aim for, and that is already tight. Most guests appreciate at least two months. Sending at 6 weeks still gives people time to reply, book a hotel if needed, and arrange any travel. But it leaves little room for delays in the post or guests who are slow to respond.

If you must send later than 6 weeks, try to warn guests by phone or message first. That way they know the invitation is coming and can plan. For a very small wedding with only local guests, 4 weeks may be acceptable, but it is not ideal.

Remember that some guests may need to book time off work with notice, and employers often require a few weeks' warning. Also, accommodation near popular venues can fill up quickly. Sending late can mean guests cannot find a place to stay nearby.

If you are worried about late replies, you can set your RSVP date for two to three weeks before the wedding. That gives you time to chase any missing responses. But the invitation itself should still go out at least 6 weeks before, so guests have time to decide.
