How do you put a wedding invitation together?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For parents

Short answer

Put your invitation together by including the hosts, the couple's names, the date and time, the venue and address, and an RSVP request with a clear deadline.

Start with who is inviting. This might be the couple themselves, their parents, or both. Then write the couple's full names on separate lines. Add the date, day of the week and time, followed by the ceremony venue and full address.

If there is a reception, say where it will be. If the evening reception is at a different place or time, include those details too. Guests need to know whether they are invited to the meal or just the party.

End with an RSVP request. Give a name or contact method and a date by which you need a reply. If you use a wedding website, include the address so guests can RSVP online. For dietary needs, ask guests to reply with any requirements by the same deadline.

Check every detail twice, especially the venue name and time. Add inner envelopes if you want to show exactly who is invited from each household.
