What is the ideal size for wedding table numbers?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For the bridal party

Short answer

The ideal size for wedding table numbers is about 3 to 4 inches tall. That is large enough for guests to spot from across the room, but small enough to sit neatly on the table.

Wedding table numbers need to be visible but not overwhelming. A number that is 3 to 4 inches tall works well for most tables. If your room is large or tables are far apart, go up to 5 inches. For intimate venues, 2.5 inches is fine. The key is that a guest can read the number from their seat without squinting.

Think about the style of the number too. A simple printed card in a stand is easy to read. Fancy script can be beautiful, but make sure it is clear. Use a high contrast colour, such as black on white or gold on dark grey. Avoid light colours on light backgrounds. If you use a frame or holder, make sure it does not block the number.

Place the number where it is visible from the main entrance to the room. A central position on the table, behind the centrepiece, often works. If the table is long, you might need two numbers, one at each end. You can also put the number on a small easel or clip it to a flower arrangement. Remember that guests will look for their table as they walk in, so keep numbers at eye level or slightly lower, not hidden behind tall vases.
