Do wedding table numbers need to be double-sided?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For guests

Short answer

Wedding table numbers do not need to be double-sided, but they often help. If guests approach the table from different directions, a double-sided number makes it easier for everyone to find their seat.

Single-sided table numbers are perfectly acceptable. Many couples use a single card in a stand, and guests manage fine. But think about how your tables are arranged. If tables are against a wall or in a row, guests may only approach from one side. In that case, single-sided is fine. If tables are scattered around the room, guests will come from all angles, and a double-sided number saves them from walking around the table to check.

Double-sided numbers are easy to create. You can print the number twice and place them back to back in a tent card or a frame. Or use a standing acrylic holder with a slot. Some couples use a small wooden block with the number painted on two sides. The extra cost is tiny, and it makes the room feel more welcoming.

There is no legal or formal rule about this. It is purely practical. If you have a seating plan at the entrance, guests will already know their table number before they walk in. That reduces the need for double-sided numbers. But if you want to be kind to your guests, especially older ones or those with mobility issues, double-sided numbers are a thoughtful touch.
