Is 10 bridesmaids too much?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For brides

Short answer

Ten bridesmaids is not too much if you can manage the logistics and budget, but it is unusually large. Think about your venue space, your costs and your own energy before you commit to such a big group.

Ten bridesmaids is a big number, and it will shape your whole wedding planning. It is not against any rule, and some couples love a huge, joyful group. But you need to be honest about what it involves. Dresses, shoes, hair, make-up, gifts and thank-you cards all multiply. Even if each bridesmaid pays for her own outfit, you may still want to cover extras like jewellery or a pre-wedding lunch.

Logistics become harder with ten. You will need a bigger getting-ready room, more chairs at the front, and a longer time for photos. Your ceremony venue might not have space for ten people to stand. Ask the registrar or your place of worship about the maximum number of attendants allowed. Some venues have rules about fire safety or sightlines.

Think about your own comfort. Ten people means ten opinions, ten schedules and ten personalities. If you are a calm planner, it can be fine, but if you find decision-making stressful, a smaller group might serve you better. You could also have ten close friends but only ask four to stand with you, and give the others roles like readings or ushering. That way everyone is included without the pressure of a huge bridal party.
