Short answer
You should have as many as you want, but most UK weddings have between two and six. There is no legal limit, and no rule from registrars or most places of worship. Choose people who are reliable, kind and happy to support you.
In the UK, there is no rule about how many bridesmaids you should have. Most weddings you attend will have between two and six, but you will also see one, or none, or eight. The choice is yours, and it should be based on your relationships, your budget and your venue.
Think practically about the number. Each bridesmaid usually needs an outfit, a bouquet, possibly hair and make-up, and a thank-you gift. They may also expect to be included in a hen do, though that is not a rule. If you have a large group, check that your getting-ready room, ceremony space and group photos can comfortably fit everyone.
Also think about the personalities. A big group can be wonderful, but it can also mean more opinions, more logistics and more stress. A smaller group is often easier to manage, and each person can have a clearer role. You might prefer to have just your sister and your best friend, and that is completely fine.
If you are unsure, start with the people you cannot imagine marrying without. Then add anyone else you truly want. There is no need to match the groom's ushers or best man in number. You are not a matching set.
