Short answer
There is no legal limit on the number of bridesmaids you can have in the UK. You can choose one, two, ten or none at all. The choice is entirely yours, based on your preferences, budget and the size of your wedding party.
In the UK, there is no official rule or legal cap on how many bridesmaids you can have, including the maid of honour. You are free to choose as many or as few as you like. Some couples have a single maid of honour, others have a large group of sisters, friends and cousins. The only practical considerations are your budget, the space at your venue and how much coordination you want to manage.
Think about what feels right for you, not what others expect. If you want a small, close-knit group, that is completely fine. If you want a big team, that is also fine. The key is to choose people who will support you kindly and reliably, not just to fill numbers. Remember that each bridesmaid may need an outfit, flowers and possibly a gift, so more people means more cost and more organisation.
There is no requirement to have a maid of honour at all. You can have co-maids of honour or no one in that role. Some couples prefer to have only ushers or a mixed wedding party. The legal side of your wedding only requires two witnesses, and those witnesses do not need to be bridesmaids. So the number is entirely your decision.
If you are unsure, start with the people you cannot imagine marrying without. That list is usually the right size. You can always add others in a different role, such as a reader or a guest of honour, if you want to include more friends without the full bridesmaid commitment.
