Short answer
There is no legal limit on bridesmaids in the UK. You can have as many as you like, from none to dozens. The only practical limits are your budget, venue space and your own energy for organising.
Legally, the number of bridesmaids is entirely up to you. There is no rule in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland that caps the size of your wedding party. You could have one, five or fifteen. What matters is that you can manage the practical side.
Each bridesmaid will need an outfit, flowers, possibly hair and makeup, and a thank-you gift. You might also want to include them in pre-wedding events. More people means more coordination, more fittings and more potential for disagreements. It can also mean a bigger, livelier group on the day.
Think about your venue. A small ceremony room or a narrow aisle might make a very large group feel crowded. If you have a big group, you can still keep it simple: matching colours rather than identical dresses, or letting them choose their own style within a palette.
Remember that bridesmaids are not required for a legal wedding. You only need two witnesses, who can be anyone aged 16 or over. If you want a smaller group, you can still have close friends involved in other roles. The choice is yours, and there is no wrong number.
