What should I eat the week before my wedding?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For brides · For grooms

Short answer

Eat simple, balanced meals with plenty of vegetables, protein and water. Avoid new foods, heavy takeaways and too much alcohol, and keep your usual routine.

In the week before your wedding, your body needs steady energy, not a crash diet. Stick to meals you know agree with you. Include lean protein, whole grains and colourful vegetables. Eat breakfast every day, even if you feel nervous, and keep healthy snacks like fruit, nuts or yoghurt to hand.

Stay well hydrated. Water helps your skin look fresh and keeps your energy up. Limit caffeine in the afternoon and evening so you sleep well. If you usually drink alcohol, cut back or stop a few days before. Too much alcohol can leave you tired, dehydrated and puffy.

Avoid trying new foods, spicy dishes or anything that might upset your stomach. Skip heavy takeaways and very salty meals, which can cause bloating. If you are having a hen do or stag do, keep it earlier in the week and keep it gentle. You do not need to fast or cleanse. Your body will thank you for regular, familiar meals.

On the day before the wedding, eat a light dinner and have a good breakfast on the morning. Pack a small snack for the day, such as a banana or a cereal bar, in case you do not get a chance to sit down for a meal. Eat when you can, and ask your bridal party to remind you.
