How to write a simple invite?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12

Short answer

Write a simple invite with four lines: the couple's names, a request to join them, the date and time, and the venue. Add RSVP details below. Keep it short and clear, with no extra flourishes.

Start with the couple's names, for example "Alex and Sam". Then add a short request, such as "are getting married and would love you to join them". Next, write the date and time, for example "Saturday 14 June 2025, at 2pm". Then give the venue name and full address. If the reception is elsewhere, add "Reception to follow at" with that address. Below that, add an RSVP line, such as "Please reply by 1 May" and how to reply, for example by email or a phone number. You can also add a line about dress code if you want, but it is not essential. Keep the font readable and the spacing generous. Do not add extra wording like "with joy in our hearts" unless you want it. A simple invite is often the most elegant. Make sure you include the year, especially if the wedding is more than a few months away. If you have a wedding website, put that on a separate card or at the bottom. Check that all names are spelled correctly, including your own. Read it once aloud to catch awkward phrasing. Then send it out with confidence.
