What do you include in a wedding invite?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For guests

Short answer

Include the hosts' names, the couple's names, the date and time, the venue address, and the RSVP details. Add a dress code and your wedding website if you have one. Keep it clear and warm.

Start with who is hosting, usually the couple or their parents, then the names of the couple. Give the full date, including the day of the week and the year, and the exact time the ceremony begins. Add the venue name and full address, and if the reception is elsewhere, include that address too.

Then add the RSVP information. Give a clear date by which guests should reply, and say whether they reply by post, email or your wedding website. If you have a gift list, do not put it on the invite; mention it on your website instead. Add a dress code only if you have one, for example "smart casual" or "black tie".

If you are having a separate evening reception, include that on a separate insert card so the main invite stays simple. Also include any practical details guests need, such as whether children are invited, or if there is a hotel room block. Keep the wording friendly and in your own voice, but make sure every piece of information is accurate before you print.
