What to include in a wedding invite envelope?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For the bridal party

Short answer

Include the invitation card, an RSVP card with a stamped addressed envelope, and a details card with your wedding website or directions. Add a separate card for other events like the evening reception or the hen do.

Your envelope should contain the main invitation, which states who is getting married, the date, time and venue. Then add an RSVP card with a reply date and a pre-stamped, pre-addressed envelope, so guests can reply easily. Include a details card with your wedding website, accommodation suggestions, travel information and dress code.

If you have a separate evening reception or a morning-after brunch, include a card for those events. If you have a gift list or charity preference, put that on the details card, not on the invitation itself. If you are having a children-only or adults-only wedding, say that clearly on the details card.

Do not put anything heavy or bulky in the envelope, it can damage the cards or cost more in postage. Keep the number of cards to a minimum, usually three or four pieces. Make sure all cards fit neatly inside the envelope without folding. If you are using a wedding website, put the web address on the details card, not on the invitation, to keep the invitation clean and elegant.
