Short answer
Write your vows by starting with a personal address, then a few specific reasons you love your partner, then clear promises, and end with a forward-looking line. Here is a simple example.
Begin with your partner's name. Then say something true and specific about them, not a generic compliment. For example: "Alex, from the day we got lost on that walk in the Lake District, I knew I wanted to keep exploring with you."
Then move into your promises. Keep them realistic and meaningful. You might say: "I promise to listen to you, even when we disagree. I promise to make you tea on difficult mornings. I promise to laugh with you, and to hold your hand when life feels heavy."
End with a line about your future. For example: "I look forward to building our home, growing old together, and choosing you, every single day."
Here is a fuller example you can adapt: "Sam, you make ordinary days feel brighter. I love your quiet kindness and the way you always remember the little things. I promise to support your dreams, to be patient when we are tired, and to never stop being curious about you. I promise to be your home, wherever we are. I choose you, today and always."
Do not worry about being poetic. Honest and simple is better than fancy. Read your vows aloud to a friend you trust, and cut anything that does not sound like you. If you are having a religious ceremony, check with your officiant first, because some traditions have set words you must use.
