How do I make a wedding budget template?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12

Short answer

Use a simple spreadsheet with columns for item, estimated cost, actual cost, paid and notes. List every category from venue to favours, then update it weekly. You can also use a notebook or a free online form if you prefer.

Open a spreadsheet or a blank notebook. Create rows for each spending category: venue, catering, drinks, attire, rings, flowers, photography, entertainment, stationery, transport, hair and makeup, favours, and a contingency fund. Under each category, list specific items. For example, under attire you might have your outfit, alterations, shoes and accessories.

Add columns for the estimated cost, the actual cost, the amount paid so far, and the balance remaining. Also add a column for the supplier name and contact details, plus a notes column for deposit dates or payment deadlines. This helps you see at a glance what is still owed and when.

Set a total budget at the top, and use a formula to subtract the sum of all estimated costs. If the total goes over, adjust categories. Review the template every week, especially after booking anything. Keep receipts and emails in one folder, either digital or paper. Share the template with your partner so you both stay aware. You can also print a simple version to keep in your wedding folder for meetings with suppliers.
