How many photos for elopement?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12

Short answer

For a typical elopement, expect around 50 to 100 edited photos per hour of coverage. A four hour elopement usually gives you 200 to 400 photos, depending on the photographer's style and the pace of the day.

The number of photos you receive depends on how long your photographer is with you and how they work. A documentary photographer might shoot more, while someone who carefully poses each shot might deliver fewer but more polished images. For a short elopement of two to three hours, expect around 100 to 300 photos. For a half day of four to six hours, expect 200 to 500. For a full day of eight hours, you might receive 400 to 800.

What matters more than the total is the quality and the coverage. You want enough photos to tell the whole story: getting ready, the ceremony, the signing of the schedule, a few portraits, and the quiet moments in between. Ask your photographer upfront how many edited photos they typically deliver per hour, and whether that number is guaranteed or an estimate. Some photographers include every usable shot, while others curate a smaller set.

Also ask how many photos you will be able to choose from for prints or an album, and whether the gallery includes high resolution files. Remember that a good photographer will never pad the gallery with duplicates. You would rather have 150 meaningful photos than 600 similar ones. Agree on the number in writing before you book, so there are no surprises after the day.
