How do you politely confirm RSVP?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For guests

Short answer

Say thank you and repeat the key details. For example: 'Thank you for your reply. We're delighted you can join us on Saturday 14 June at 2pm.' This confirms you have understood and makes the guest feel welcome.

When you confirm an RSVP, keep it warm and clear. Start with thanks, then state the date, time and venue so there is no confusion. If the guest has a dietary requirement or a plus one, acknowledge it briefly. For example: 'Thank you for letting us know. We look forward to seeing you and Alex. We've noted the vegetarian option.'

If the guest cannot attend, be kind and brief. Say something like: 'Thank you for your reply. We're sorry you can't make it, but we hope to celebrate with you another time.' You do not need to explain or apologise for their absence.

If you are confirming on behalf of a couple, for example as a parent or a member of the bridal party, make sure you have their permission first. Then reply in their voice, not yours. Say 'They are delighted to accept' rather than 'I am delighted'.

Always reply by the date on the invitation, even if you have already told the couple informally. A written or online confirmation helps them finalise numbers with the venue and caterers. If you are unsure about anything, ask the couple directly rather than guessing.
