How long will a QR code last?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12

Short answer

A QR code lasts as long as the website link it points to stays active. If you keep your wedding website running, the code will keep working for years.

The QR code itself is just a picture. It does not have an expiry date. What matters is where it leads. If the code points to your wedding website, it will work for as long as you keep that site online. Many couples keep their site up for a year or more after the wedding to share photos and thank guests.

If you ever change your website address, the old QR code will stop working. This is why it is worth keeping the same link from the start. You can also set up a redirect if you need to move your site to a new address. That way the code still finds your content even after a change.

Think about what you want the code to do in the future. Some couples use it to collect RSVPs, others use it for directions, accommodation details or a gift list. If you add new pages later, the code still works because it points to the same home page.

If you are worried about the code going out of date, you can print a small note on the invitation telling guests what they will find when they scan it. This helps if someone scans it months after receiving the card.
