Short answer
A hair trial usually lasts 45 to 90 minutes, depending on the style and how much you discuss. Complex updos or adding extensions can take longer, so ask your stylist for a time estimate when booking.
Most hair trials take between 45 minutes and an hour and a half. A simple style, like loose waves or a low bun, may be done in under an hour. A structured updo, braided style or anything with added hairpieces or extensions can easily take 90 minutes or more. Your stylist will also want time to talk through your ideas, look at photos and adjust the style as you go.
It is a good idea to book your hair trial for a day when you have no other plans. You may want to wear the style for a few hours to see how it holds, how it feels and whether it gives you a headache. If you are also having a makeup trial, book them together or on the same day, but expect the whole session to take longer.
Ask your stylist at the booking stage how long they usually allow. Some stylists offer a combined hair and makeup trial that can last two to three hours. Bring your veil or hair accessories to the trial so you can see how they attach and whether the style needs adjusting.
Remember that the trial is not just about the final look. It is also your chance to practise how the hair feels with your dress, your jewellery and your plans for the day. If you want changes, say so during the trial, not after. Most stylists are happy to redo or tweak the style until you are happy.
