Short answer
It is entirely up to the couple. Many grooms prefer to pick their suit alone or with friends, while others enjoy shopping together. There is no rule either way.
There is no expectation for you to attend. Some grooms find the experience more enjoyable with a partner to give honest feedback on fit and colour. Others feel more relaxed choosing on their own, or with a best man or close friend who knows their style.
If you do go together, keep it light. Focus on the main details rather than every button. Agree beforehand on the level of formality so you are both looking for the same thing.
Consider these points:
- Try on several cuts to see what suits your shape.
- Check the fabric works for the season and venue.
- Allow enough time for alterations before the big day.
If you would rather keep it a surprise, that is perfectly fine too. The suit should feel comfortable and confident on the day, no matter how it is chosen.
