Short answer
No, there is no rule in the UK that you must marry where the bride is from. You can legally marry anywhere in the UK, as long as you give notice in the correct district and the venue or religious building is registered for marriages. Choose a place that means something to you both.
The idea that the wedding must be in the bride's hometown is a tradition, not a legal requirement. In the UK, you are free to marry in any register office, approved venue or registered religious building, anywhere in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. What matters is where you give notice and where the ceremony takes place.
For England and Wales, you give notice at your local register office, usually where you have lived for at least the last seven days. That notice is then valid for the ceremony anywhere in England or Wales, as long as the venue is registered. In Scotland, you submit a marriage notice to the registrar for the district where the wedding will take place, so you can choose a Scottish venue even if you live in England. In Northern Ireland, you give notice to the registrar in the district of the wedding venue.
So if you want a wedding in the Lake District, a city centre in Manchester, a beach in Cornwall or a castle in Scotland, that is absolutely fine. Many couples choose a venue that is central for both families, or somewhere they love for a holiday. Talk to both families about travel and accommodation, but the final decision is yours. If you choose a religious ceremony, check with the place of worship, as some have rules about residency or membership.
