Short answer
Plan a wedding without stress by starting early, keeping decisions simple and sharing tasks. Focus on what matters to you two, not on pleasing everyone else. Give yourselves plenty of time for each step.
Start by agreeing your budget, guest list and rough date. These three decisions shape everything else, so sort them first and write them down. Then give yourselves a long timeline. Most couples find 12 to 18 months feels calm, but even shorter can work if you keep choices simple.
Share the work. Make a list of every job, from booking the venue to ordering stationery, and divide it between you, your families and close friends. One person should own each task, so nothing slips. Have a short check in once a week, not every day.
Limit your options. Choose one venue, one colour scheme and one caterer rather than comparing endlessly. Every extra choice adds thinking time. When you feel torn, ask: will this matter on the day? If not, let it go.
Build in rest. Plan no wedding talk for one evening a week. Book a night away together a few weeks before. Remember the legal steps: in England and Wales you give notice at your local register office at least 28 days before, and in Scotland at least29 days. Check with your venue or place of worship too, as rules can vary.
Finally, accept that small things will go wrong. They rarely spoil the day, and guests remember how you made them feel, not whether the flowers matched.
