Can I create a Nikah Nama form online?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For parents

Short answer

You can print a Nikah Nama template online, but only a registered marriage registrar or authorised person can make it legally valid in England and Wales.

A Nikah Nama is the Islamic marriage contract, and many couples find printable templates online to fill in details like names, mahr and witnesses. This can be a helpful starting point for your records. However, in England and Wales a Nikah ceremony on its own is only legally binding if it takes place in a building registered for marriages with an authorised person present. Many couples choose to have a short civil ceremony too, so their marriage is recognised by law.

If you want to use an online form, check that the layout includes space for both partners, the mahr, the witnesses and the signatures of the officiant. You may also want to ask your mosque or imam whether they supply their own version that fits local practice. Rules and requirements can vary, so it is worth checking with your place of worship and with GOV.UK or the register office before you book a date.

  • Confirm whether your venue is registered for marriages
  • Ask your officiant which witness and signature rules apply
  • Decide whether you also need a civil ceremony for legal recognition
