How do you make a QR code for a picture?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For guests

Short answer

To make a QR code for a picture, upload the image to a cloud storage service, get a shareable link, then use a free QR code generator to turn that link into a code.

A QR code cannot store a picture directly, but it can link to one. First, upload your picture to a cloud storage service like Google Drive, iCloud or Dropbox. Make sure the file is set to "anyone with the link can view" so guests do not need an account. Copy the share link. Then open a free QR code generator website. Choose the option for a URL or web link, paste your picture link, and download the generated QR code.

You can also link to a single photo in a shared album, or to a page that shows a slideshow. If you want guests to see the picture instantly, keep the file size small so it loads quickly. A high-resolution photo may take a few seconds, which is fine on Wi-Fi but slower on mobile data.

Test the QR code after you make it. Scan it with your own phone and check that the picture opens correctly. If the link is long, some generators shorten it automatically, which helps. Print the QR code on a card, a sign, or even on the back of a favour tag. Just make sure the code is at least 2 centimetres square for easy scanning.
