How far in advance should I book a bridal makeup trial?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For brides

Short answer

Book your bridal makeup trial 3 to 4 months before the wedding, and ideally 6 to 8 weeks before your final makeup appointment. This gives you time to test the look, make changes and rebook if needed. Popular artists book up early, so start your search sooner rather than later.

Start looking for a makeup artist about 6 to 9 months before your wedding, especially if you are getting married in peak season. Once you have shortlisted someone, book your trial 3 to 4 months ahead. That way you have plenty of time to live with the look, take photos in different light and decide if it feels like you.

If you are also having a hair trial, many artists offer combined sessions, which can save you time and help you see the whole look together. Book both trials on the same day if you can, wearing similar clothing to what you will wear on the day.

After the trial, note what you loved and what you would change. Share this with your artist before the wedding. If you are not happy, it is fine to try another artist. Just give yourself enough time to do that without stress. A trial is your chance to build trust and make sure you feel confident on the day.
