How far in advance should you send bridal shower invitations?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For the bridal party

Short answer

Send bridal shower invitations about four to six weeks before the event. This gives guests enough time to plan, but not so long that they forget. For a smaller shower, three weeks can work, but four to six weeks is a comfortable, kind window.

A bridal shower is usually a relaxed, close-knit gathering, so the invitation timing can be a little more flexible than for the wedding itself. Aim to send invitations four to six weeks ahead. This allows guests to check diaries, arrange travel if needed, and buy a gift without feeling rushed.

If the shower is being held by a friend or family member, make sure the host has your guest list and any gift list details well in advance. For guests travelling from further away, six weeks is kinder. For a very local, small group, three weeks is acceptable, but any less can feel hurried.

Remember that the bridal shower is separate from the wedding invitation. Guests should already know the wedding date before they receive a shower invitation, so there is no confusion. If you are having a joint shower for both partners, the same timing applies. Always include the host's contact details for RSVPs, and be clear about the venue, date and time. A short, warm note about gifts is fine, but do not put a gift list on the invitation itself.
