How should I prepare for a bridal makeup trial?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For the bridal party · For brides

Short answer

Come to your trial with a clean, moisturised face and no heavy makeup. Bring photos of looks you like and dislike, plus any makeup you already own. Tell your artist about skin allergies, sensitivities or products you avoid. Arrive with your hair roughly how you plan to wear it on the day.

Preparation makes a big difference to how your trial goes. Start by washing your face and applying a light moisturiser, but skip heavy serums or face masks on the day. If you usually wear makeup, keep it minimal or come bare faced so the artist can see your natural skin tone and texture.

Bring a few photos of makeup styles you love, and a few you really do not like. This helps the artist understand your taste without guessing. Also bring any foundation, lipstick or other products you already use and like, so they can match or blend them.

Tell the artist about any allergies, skin conditions or medications that affect your skin. If you wear contact lenses, mention that too. If you have a tan, fake or real, let them know before the trial so they can adjust shades. Finally, if you are having a hair trial on the same day, do it before the makeup so your face is clean for the artist.
