When to send out wedding invitations if not doing save the date?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For guests

Short answer

If you are not sending save the dates, send wedding invitations four to five months before the wedding. This gives guests enough notice to plan travel and time off, while still keeping the details fresh in their minds.

Without save the dates, your invitation does all the work, so give it a little more time. Four to five months before the wedding is a good window. This is long enough for guests to book time off work, arrange childcare, and sort out travel and accommodation, but not so long that they lose the invitation or forget to reply.

If your wedding is on a bank holiday, during school holidays, or in a popular tourist area, send invitations closer to six months. Guests may need to book accommodation early. If your wedding is local and most guests live nearby, four months is plenty.

Set your RSVP date about six to eight weeks before the wedding. That gives you time to chase late replies and confirm final numbers with your venue and caterers. For guests who have not replied, a friendly nudge a week after the RSVP date is normal and kind.
