Short answer
An RSVP card should ask for the guest's name, whether they accept or decline, and the number attending. It should include a reply date and a return address or website. Keep the wording warm and simple, like "We would love to know if you can join us".
The RSVP card is a practical tool, but it can still feel personal. Start with a friendly line, such as "Kindly reply by [date]" or "Please let us know by [date] if you can celebrate with us". Then give clear choices: "Joyfully accepts" and "Regretfully declines" are classic and warm. Add a line for the guest's name, and a line for the number of people attending if the invitation includes a plus one.
Include a space for dietary requirements or allergies, because that is genuinely useful for the couple and the caterer. If you have a website for RSVPs, print the web address on the card instead of a postal address. If you want postal replies, print the couple's address or a return address on the back of the envelope. Always include a reply date, and make it at least two weeks before the wedding so the couple has time to finalise numbers.
Keep the wording simple and avoid jargon. You do not need to say "RSVP" on the card if the envelope already says it, but it is fine to include it. If you have a theme or a colour scheme, the card can match, but do not let design get in the way of clarity. The most important thing is that guests know exactly what to do and by when.
