How do you fill out an RSVP?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For guests

Short answer

Fill in your name clearly, tick or write whether you are attending, and note any dietary requirements or allergies. Then post the card or submit the online form before the deadline.

When you receive an RSVP card, start by writing your full name in the space provided. If the card asks for the number of guests, write the exact number of people in your party. If you are invited as a couple or family, include everyone's first names so the couple knows who to expect.

Next, mark your choice: attending or not attending. If there is a box for each, tick the correct one. If the card asks you to cross out a meal choice, do that clearly. For dietary needs, write them in the notes section or next to your name. Be specific, for example "vegetarian" or "allergic to nuts".

If you are replying online, follow the same steps on the wedding website. Type your name exactly as it appears on the invitation, select your attendance, and add any comments.

Finally, check the deadline and send your reply before that date. If you cannot attend, still reply promptly so the couple can plan accurately. If you are unsure about anything, contact the couple or the person named on the invitation.
