How do you print wedding invitations with a laser printer?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12

Short answer

Print wedding invitations with a laser printer by choosing smooth, laser-safe card, setting your printer to the correct paper weight, and doing a test print first. Always use the manual feed tray for thick card to avoid jams.

Start by checking your printer's manual for the maximum paper weight it can handle. Most laser printers cope with card up to around 250gsm, but some go higher. Choose a smooth, uncoated or matte card that is labelled laser compatible. Glossy or textured papers can smudge or melt in the heat of a laser printer.

Set your printer driver to the correct paper type, usually "cardstock" or "heavy paper". This slows the printing speed and helps the toner fuse properly. Use the manual feed tray rather than the main paper tray, and fan the card before loading to stop sheets sticking together.

Always run a test print on the same card you plan to use. Check the alignment, colour and whether the toner smudges when you touch it. Print one full invitation and let it cool for a minute before handling. If you are printing both sides, print the back first, let it dry, then print the front. Keep your hands clean and dry, and store printed invitations flat in a box until you assemble them.
