Short answer
A good thank-you speech thanks the guests for coming, the parents for their support, the wedding party for their help, and the couple or your partner for the day, all in a warm, personal tone.
Start by welcoming everyone and thanking them for travelling to be with you. Mention a few specific groups: parents, who often help with planning and hosting; the bridal party, who supported you on the day; and any friends or family who contributed in a meaningful way. Keep it sincere and brief, around two to three minutes.
Then thank your partner directly. Say something personal about why you wanted to marry them, and how much the day means to you. End with a toast to the guests, or to your new spouse, depending on who is speaking. If you are the couple speaking together, take turns so both voices are heard.
Avoid reading a long list of names. Instead, thank groups and single out only a few people who did something exceptional. If you forget someone, you can thank them privately later. The best thank-you speeches feel spontaneous, even if you have practised them. Smile, breathe, and speak slowly so everyone can hear you.
