Short answer
The contract should name both parties, the date, venue and times, the services and deliverables, the fee and payment schedule, cancellation and rescheduling terms, and what happens if the videographer cannot attend. It should also cover copyright and usage rights.
A clear contract protects you both. It should start with the basics: your names, the videographer's business name, the wedding date, the venue address, and the exact start and finish times for filming. It should say who the videographer is on the day and whether they bring an assistant.
The contract must list the deliverables. That means the number of films, their approximate lengths, the format you receive them in, and the delivery date or timeframe. It should say how many revisions you are allowed and how to request them.
The fee section should state the total cost, the deposit, when the balance is due, and what happens if you cancel. It should also say what happens if the videographer is ill or cannot attend, and whether they will arrange a replacement.
Copyright and usage are important. The contract should say who owns the raw footage and the final films, and whether the videographer can use clips for their portfolio or marketing. You should have the right to share the film privately and on your own channels.
Finally, include a liability clause and a force majeure clause for events outside anyone's control. If anything is unclear, ask the videographer to explain it before you sign.
