What should you do the night before the wedding?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For the bridal party

Short answer

The night before the wedding, eat a proper meal, drink water, and get your clothes and documents ready. Have an early night if you can. Give yourself time to relax, talk to your partner or a close friend, and set an alarm. Avoid alcohol and late nights.

Start by preparing everything you need for the morning. Lay out your outfit, shoes, jewellery, and any accessories. Pack your overnight bag if you are staying away. Put your marriage documents, rings, and any readings in a safe place where you will not forget them. Charge your phone and any cameras.

Eat a good dinner, something filling but not too heavy. Drink plenty of water. If you are having a hen do or stag do earlier in the day, keep it sensible. Too much alcohol will leave you tired and dehydrated. Try to be home by a reasonable hour.

Spend the evening doing something calm. Have a bath, watch a film, or read. Talk to your partner on the phone if you are not spending the night together. Write a short note to yourself with the key timings for the morning, like when hair and make-up start, when you need to leave, and when the ceremony begins.

Go to bed early. You might not sleep well, and that is normal. Set two alarms, one as a backup. If you wake up in the night, do not scroll on your phone. Keep a glass of water by the bed and try to rest. The morning will come quickly, and you want to feel as fresh as you can.
