What to eat on wedding day morning?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For brides · For grooms

Short answer

Eat a light but filling breakfast on the morning of your wedding. Good choices include porridge, eggs on toast, yoghurt with fruit, or a smoothie. Avoid anything too heavy, greasy, or new to you. Eat about two hours before you need to get ready.

Your wedding morning is not the day to skip breakfast. You will need energy for the ceremony, photos, and the long day ahead. Aim for a meal that combines slow-release carbohydrates and protein. Porridge with berries, scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast, or Greek yoghurt with banana and honey are all good options. A smoothie with oats and fruit is easy to drink if you feel nervous.

Avoid fried food, very spicy dishes, or anything you have never tried before. You do not want an upset stomach or a food coma. Also avoid too much caffeine, as it can make nerves worse. Stick to water, herbal tea, or one cup of coffee if that is your usual habit.

Eat about two hours before you start getting ready, so you have time to digest. If you are having a midday ceremony, that might mean breakfast at 8am. If you are getting married later, have a light snack like a banana or a handful of nuts mid-morning. Ask a bridesmaid or family member to keep a snack in your emergency kit, just in case.
