Whose name should be first on a wedding website?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12

Short answer

Whichever name you want first is the right one. There is no rule. Think about what feels most natural to you as a couple, and what your guests already call you. Just be consistent across all your wedding stationery.

The short answer is that you decide. Some couples put the person who is more outgoing or who is doing most of the planning first, so guests see a familiar name. Others use alphabetical order to avoid any sense of favouritism. If you have different surnames, consider whether one is easier to spell or pronounce, and lead with that to help guests find your website. If you are having a joint email address or a hashtag, that might also influence the order. The most important thing is that both names are clearly visible and easy to read. You might also include a line like "Together with their families" if that suits you, but it is not required. Whatever you choose, remember that your website is a practical tool, not a legal document. The order of names on your marriage certificate is a separate matter, and you can decide that with the registrar. For your website, go with what feels like you.
