How do you make a QR code for a wedding invitation with a map?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For guests

Short answer

Use a free QR code generator online, paste the map link from a mapping service, then download the code and print it on your invitation.

Start by opening the map you want to share, for example the venue location, and copy the web address from your browser. Then go to a free QR code generator website. Paste the link into the box, choose a simple style that will print clearly, and download the image. Test the code on your own phone before printing. Place it on the invitation near the venue details, or on a separate card with the words "Scan for directions". Make sure the code is large enough, at least 2cm square, and keep it away from folds or creases. If you are using a wedding website, you can also link the QR code to a page on your site that shows the map, which makes it easier to update later. Remember that some older phones need a QR scanning app, but most modern phones read codes straight from the camera. Keep the code high contrast, black on white is safest. Avoid putting it on a busy background. If your venue changes, update the link on your website and the code will still work, as long as you linked to the website rather than a direct map link.
