How do you make a wedding website name easy for guests to type?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For guests

Short answer

Use only lowercase letters, no hyphens, no numbers, and no unusual spellings. Stick to your first names in the order you say them, like "alexandsam". Avoid using "and" if it is confusing; "alexsam" might be simpler. Test it by typing it on a phone.

Typing ease matters because many guests will use a phone. The easiest names are all lowercase, with no spaces, hyphens, or underscores. For example, "alexandsam" is much easier than "Alex-and-Sam-2025". Avoid using the ampersand symbol "&" because it is hard to type on some keyboards. Also avoid using numbers that look like letters, like "4" instead of "for", because guests will not know which one you mean.

If your names are long, consider using just first names or a short nickname that everyone uses. For example, "alexandsam" is better than "alexanderandsamantha". If you have a double-barrelled surname, do not include it in the website name. Keep it to first names only.

Another tip is to avoid using the word "wedding" if it makes the name too long. "alexandsam" is enough. If that is taken, try "alexandsamuk" or "alexandsamwedding". Test the name by typing it on a phone with one hand, and also ask an older relative to try. If they can type it without asking for help, you are good. Finally, make sure the name is exactly the same as the URL, with no extra letters or a different spelling.
