When should I buy bridal accessories?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For brides

Short answer

Buy accessories after your dress is chosen but before your final fitting, usually two to three months before the wedding. This gives you time to match colours, try everything together and return or exchange anything that does not work.

The dress comes first. Once you have chosen it, you know the neckline, length and overall style, which will guide your accessories. Book your dress fittings, and aim to have your shoes, veil and jewellery before the second fitting. That way you can see the full outfit and make sure everything works together.

If you are ordering a veil or custom jewellery, allow extra time for delivery and any alterations. Shoes should be bought early enough to wear around the house, so they soften and stretch. Do not leave everything to the last week. You need time to return items, change your mind or find a replacement if something is damaged.

Some accessories, like a bag or a hair piece, can be bought closer to the day, but it is safer to have them at least a month in advance. If you are borrowing something, arrange it early and confirm the details with the owner. For anything that needs a repair or a clean, give yourself a buffer. The goal is to have everything ready and checked before the final fitting, so the last few weeks are calm.
