How do you send save the dates as postcards?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12

Short answer

Write your details on the back, add a stamp, and post them like any postcard. Keep the design simple so the address and stamp sit neatly. Post them six to eight months before the wedding.

Choose a postcard size that fits a standard stamp, usually around 15cm by 10cm, but check with your local post office if you are unsure. Print your names, wedding date, location and website on the front, or use the back for the address and message. Leave a clear space for the stamp and the postcode, as the postal service needs those to read clearly. Write the recipient's address on the right-hand side and your message on the left, just like a holiday postcard. If you want a cleaner look, print the address directly onto the card using a mail merge from a spreadsheet. Post them in batches so you can track who has received theirs. For international guests, allow extra time and check postage rates, as they vary by country. You can also hand-deliver to close family and friends who live nearby, which saves stamps and feels personal.
