How do you word a wedding invitation for a Hindu wedding?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For parents

Short answer

For a Hindu wedding, use a traditional format with a blessing or invocation, then the names of the couple and their families, and details of the ceremony, often including multiple events like the puja and the reception.

A Hindu wedding invitation often begins with a sacred symbol or blessing, such as 'With the blessings of Lord Ganesha' or 'With the grace of the divine'. Then you can write 'Together with their families, [Bride's name] and [Groom's name] request the pleasure of your company at their wedding'. Include the date, time and venue for the main ceremony, which is often called the 'Vivaha' or 'Muhurtham'. If there are multiple events, such as a mehndi, sangeet, or reception, list them separately with their own times and venues. You may also include the names of the parents and grandparents, as is traditional in many Hindu families. For example, 'Son of Mr and Mrs [Groom's parents] and daughter of Mr and Mrs [Bride's parents]'. Some invitations include a line about the sacred fire or the seven steps, but this is optional. If the ceremony is religious and not legally binding on its own, you can add a note that the couple will also have a civil ceremony, or check with the venue and registrar. Keep the wording respectful and clear, and include an RSVP date.
