How do I put a background on my photo booth?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For the bridal party

Short answer

Choose a plain or patterned fabric, paper roll, or a ready-made backdrop stand, then hang it securely on a frame or wall. Make sure it is smooth, well-lit, and free from creases so your photos look clean and professional.

Start by deciding where your photo booth will live. A blank wall is the easiest option. If you do not have one, use a sturdy backdrop stand or a freestanding frame. For the background itself, you can use a fabric sheet, a paper roll, or a printed vinyl. Fabric is forgiving and travels well, but it can crease. Paper rolls give a crisp, flat look but can tear. Printed vinyl is durable and easy to wipe clean.

Hang your background so it reaches the floor or just below the waist, depending on the look you want. Use clips, weights, or tape to keep it taut. Avoid shiny materials that reflect flash. Position your photo booth so the light is even and faces the guests, not the backdrop. Test a few shots before the wedding starts.

If you are outdoors, weigh down the stand and avoid windy spots. If you are indoors, check the ceiling height. You can also add a simple frame, fairy lights, or fresh flowers along the edges, but keep the centre clear so faces are the focus. Always have a spare background in case of spills or tears.
