What size backdrop do you need for a photo booth?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For guests

Short answer

For a photo booth, you need a backdrop that is at least 6 feet wide and 7 feet tall. This size fits a couple or small group comfortably, allowing the camera to capture everyone without cutting off heads.

A standard photo booth backdrop should be at least 6 feet wide and 7 feet tall. This gives enough room for two people standing side by side, plus a bit of space around them so the camera frame looks balanced. If you expect larger groups, such as families or the whole bridal party, go wider: 8 feet by 8 feet is a safe choice. For a full-length shot, you will need more height, around 9 feet, so guests can stand back and still be fully in frame.

Consider the layout of your venue. If the backdrop is against a wall, you can use a smaller width, but if it is freestanding, allow extra space behind it for the frame or stand. Also think about the camera distance. A backdrop that is too small will force guests to stand very close to it, which can make photos feel cramped. Always test the size with a couple of people standing in front before the wedding day. If you are using a professional photo booth service, check their recommended dimensions, as their equipment may need a specific clearance.
