Do you give your photographer a wedding invite?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12

Short answer

No, you do not need to give your photographer a wedding invite. They are a supplier, not a guest. Instead, send them a schedule, venue details, and a list of must-have shots.

A wedding invite is for guests who are coming to celebrate. Your photographer is there to work, so they do not need a formal invitation. What they do need is practical information: the full address of the ceremony and reception, start times, parking arrangements, and any access notes.

It is also helpful to share your running order, including when speeches, first dance, and cake cutting will happen. If you have specific family groups you want photographed, send a list of names. Many photographers ask for this in advance, so use their questionnaire or planning form.

You might choose to give your photographer a meal at the reception, but that is a courtesy, not an obligation. Check your contract to see if a meal is included. If you do provide one, tell the venue in advance so they can seat the photographer appropriately, usually near the action but not in the middle of the top table.
