Is 7 days enough for a honeymoon?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12

Short answer

Yes, 7 days is enough for a honeymoon for many couples. It gives you time to unwind, explore and enjoy each other without rushing. If you travel far, add a day or two for jet lag, or choose a closer destination.

A week is a common and perfectly good honeymoon length. It works well if you are both busy at work or want to save holiday days. You can have a relaxed beach week, a city break with day trips, or a mix of both.

The main thing to watch is travel time. If you fly for more than six or seven hours, you might lose the first day to travel and the last day to packing. In that case, consider a destination closer to home, like southern Europe, or extend to ten days if you can.

Think about your energy levels. After the wedding, you may be tired and emotional. A week gives you time to sleep in, eat long meals and just be together. You do not need to fill every day with activities.

If you want a longer honeymoon but cannot take the time off, you could plan a mini-moon straight after the wedding and a bigger trip later in the year. That way, you get two celebrations without stretching your budget or your holiday allowance.
