What's a good short thank you message?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For parents

Short answer

A good short thank you message is warm, personal and specific. Try: "Thank you so much for coming to our wedding and for your lovely gift. It meant the world to us to have you there."

Keep your thank you message simple and heartfelt. Start by naming the person and thanking them for being there. Then mention something specific about them, such as the gift they gave, the speech they made, or the help they offered. This shows you noticed and cared. End with a warm wish, like hoping to see them soon.

A good structure is: thank them for attending, thank them for their gift or kindness, and share one personal memory from the day. For example: "Dear Sarah, thank you so much for travelling all the way to our wedding. Your gift of the picture frame was so thoughtful, and we loved seeing you on the dance floor. We hope to catch up properly soon."

If you gave gifts to your bridal party, you can thank them separately for their support and time. For guests who could not come but sent a gift, thank them for their generosity and say you missed them. You do not need to write a long essay. A few sincere sentences are perfect. Aim to send your thank you messages within three months of the wedding, but sooner is better. Handwritten notes feel more personal, but a well-worded email or message is fine too.
