How to make a free QR code for wedding invitations
You can make a QR code for free using any online QR code generator. Look for one that lets you create a static QR code, which never expires and needs no subscription. Choose the type that opens a web address, then paste in the link to your wedding website's RSVP page.
If you are using our wedding website builder, your RSVP page has its own web address. Copy that link and paste it into the generator. Download the QR code as a high quality image, usually a PNG file. Test it with your phone before you print anything.
A free QR code is fine for wedding invitations. You do not need a paid version. Just make sure the code is large enough to scan, at least 2 by 2 centimetres on the printed card. Keep the surrounding area clear of other text or images.
How to put a QR code on an RSVP card
Put the QR code on the RSVP card itself, not just the main invitation. That way guests scan it when they are ready to reply. Place it near the top or bottom, with a short line like "Scan to reply" or "RSVP online".
If you still want a paper reply slip, you can offer both options. Print the QR code on the card and also include a stamped envelope for guests who prefer to post. This works well for older guests who may not use a phone.
Make sure the QR code links directly to the RSVP form, not just your wedding website home page. Guests should land on the page where they can type their name and choose their meal. Test the link on your own phone before printing.

A QR code for photo sharing works in a similar way. You need a shared album where guests can upload photos. Many free photo storage services let you create a shared link. Choose one that allows guests to add photos without needing an account.
Create the shared album and copy its link. Then make a QR code that opens that link. Put this QR code on a sign at the wedding, near the entrance or on each table. You can also print it on the back of the order of service or on a small card at each place setting.
Write a clear instruction next to the code, such as "Scan to add your photos". Tell guests what to do, for example "Take a photo, scan, and upload". Keep the wording simple and friendly. If you want a specific hashtag for social media, you can add that too, but the QR code is the main way to share.
How to make a QR code for a picture
You can turn a picture into a QR code, but it is not the same as a normal QR code. A picture QR code is a QR code with a small image or logo in the centre. Most free generators let you upload a small picture, like your monogram or a tiny heart, and place it in the middle of the code.
Be careful: the picture must be small and the code must still have enough black squares to scan. If the picture covers too much, the code may not work. Test it on a few different phones before you print.
Alternatively, you can make a QR code that opens a picture, for example a photo of you and your partner or a map. That is just a normal QR code that links to an image file online. But for RSVPs and photo sharing, a standard code that opens a web page is more reliable.
What to write on a wedding invitation with a QR code
When you add a QR code to your invitation, give guests a clear instruction. Write "Scan for details and to RSVP" or "Scan to visit our wedding website". Do not assume everyone knows what to do.
If you are using the QR code for RSVPs, say "Please RSVP by [date] using the QR code or the website below". If you are using it for photos, write "Scan to share your photos" on the sign or card.
Keep the wording short and friendly. You do not need to explain how to scan. Most phones open the camera and point it at the code. You can add a tiny note like "Open your camera and point it at the code" if you want to help older guests.
How to make a wedding QR code sign
A wedding QR code sign is easy to make. Design a simple sign with a heading, a short instruction, and the QR code. You can use a free design tool or our sister print shop can print a sign for you.
For a photo sharing sign, write "Share your photos" in large letters. Then add "Scan to upload" and the QR code. Place the sign where guests will see it, for example near the guest book, at the bar, or on a table at the entrance.
For an RSVP sign, if you are having a post-wedding brunch or a second event, you can put a QR code on a sign that says "RSVP for the brunch". Make sure the code is large enough to scan from a short distance, at least 10 by 10 centimetres on a poster.
How to make a QR code for wedding money gifts
Some couples ask for money gifts instead of physical presents. You can use a QR code for this, but be careful. Never put a QR code that links directly to a bank account or payment page on a public invitation, because anyone could scan it.
Instead, link the QR code to a private page on your wedding website where you explain your gift preference. That page can have a secure payment link or a bank transfer detail. This keeps your bank details private and lets you control who sees them.
Write a polite note next to the code, such as "If you wish to give a gift, scan for details". Do not put the code on the main invitation if you feel uncomfortable. You can put it on a separate card or on your website only.
