How big should a table be to fit 10 people?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For guests

Short answer

A round table about 1.8 metres in diameter, or a rectangular table roughly 2.4 metres long, will comfortably fit 10 people with room for place settings and conversation.

For ten guests, a round table around 1.8 metres across gives everyone enough elbow room and a good view of the top table. Round tables encourage conversation since no one sits with their back to the group. A rectangular table about 2.4 metres long works well too, especially if you want a long family or bridal party table.

Allow roughly 60 centimetres of table edge per person so plates, glasses and cutlery fit without crowding. If you are serving a plated meal, give a little extra space so waiters can pass dishes easily. Buffet or family style service may need slightly more room for serving plates.

If your venue has limited space, you can mix table sizes, such as two tables of five, to fit the room better. There is no legal rule about table size, so work with your venue's layout and your guest list.
